Lead the End-to-End Supply Chain Function in a Critical Mining Support Role
LOCATION: Alberton, Johannesburg
SALARY AND BENEFITS: R1.2 mil – R1.5 mil CTC p/a depending on experience
DESCRIPTION / SYNOPSIS:
A respected organisation operating within the mining supply and engineering sector is looking to appoint an experienced Logistics Manager to lead its logistics and supply chain function. The organisation supports complex operational projects and supplies specialised equipment across various regions, with a focus on quality, reliability, and hands-on project involvement. With the current manager approaching retirement, this role offers a 3 – 6 month handover period for seamless onboarding. You will play a vital role in planning and executing both local and international logistics for large-scale mining equipment, overseeing operations and compliance, and supporting the company’s continued growth in a high-pressure, dynamic environment
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Relevant tertiary qualification in logistics, supply chain, or related field
- 7–10 years’ experience in logistics and supply chain, ideally within moving mining or heavy industrial equipment
- Experience with international freight and project logistics
- Experience in Project Management is important
- Strong working knowledge of Customs and Excise regulations
- Strong MS Excel and analytical reporting skills
- People management experience essential
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and oversee weekly logistics operations and reporting
- Collaborate with project managers and engineers for cargo readiness and project logistics
- Handle end-to-end logistics for local and international suppliers, ensuring cost-efficiency and compliance
- Negotiate, appoint, and manage service providers including freight forwarders, warehouses, transporters, and crating teams
- Verify packing lists, shipping specs, and documentation for international shipments
- Manage customs clearance processes, tariff codes, HS classifications, and abnormal load compliance
- Track all shipments and ensure timely delivery
- Review final supplier invoices and assist with approvals for payment
- Participate in RFQs, studies, and tenders related to logistics planning and costing
