DESCRIPTION / SYNOPSIS:
A leading power engineering company is seeking a Sales Engineer – Substation Test Interfaces to drive sales and technical engagement for cutting-edge substation testing solutions across Southern Africa and the Middle East. Based in Johannesburg, this role is ideal for a technically savvy professional with a strong commercial acumen and deep relationships in the utilities, OEM, and industrial sectors. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current / Power Systems)
- 5 – 7 years’ technical sales or application engineering experience in the substation, T&D, or power systems sector
- In-depth understanding of protection, automation, and substation test equipment
- Existing network within utilities, municipalities, and key OEMs (e.g., Hitachi, Siemens, IST)
- Experience preparing tenders, RFQs, and technical-commercial proposals
- Valid driver’s license and passport
- Willingness to travel extensively within SADC and occasionally to the Middle East, Germany, and Brazil
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Promote and sell substation test interface equipment to utilities, municipalities, EPCs, and industrial clients
- Conduct technical consultations, demos, and post-sales support across regional markets
- Maintain strategic relationships with OEMs, integrators, and key clients
- Identify and pursue new market opportunities across SADC and Middle East regions
- Attend trade shows and client meetings to grow the brand and gather market intelligence
- Manage CRM systems, track sales activity, and meet sales targets
- Collaborate with internal technical teams on tender submissions and proposals
- Represent the company professionally in all regional and international engagements
SOFTSKILLS/ADDITIONAL INFO:
- Strong interpersonal and technical communication skills
- Ability to articulate value propositions to engineering and procurement teams
- Entrepreneurial, self-motivated, and able to work independently
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot)
- Multilingual skills (Portuguese, Arabic, French, or German) are a plus
