Description/Synopsis:

A well-established engineering consultancy, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer (Pr Eng) to join its Building Services team. The role involves leading complex mechanical design projects across healthcare, commercial, and large-scale infrastructure developments, from inception through to handover.

This is a senior, hands-on role suited to an experienced professional who can manage large projects, mentor junior engineers, and engage confidently with clients and multidisciplinary teams.

Minimum Requirements:

• BEng in Mechanical Engineering
• Professional registration with ECSA (Pr Eng) – mandatory
• Minimum 10 years’ post-qualification experience in the Building Services sector
• Experience in healthcare / hospital projects (advantageous)
• Strong working knowledge of JBCC, NEC3 contracts
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel

Main Responsibilities:

• Mechanical design and installation of building services systems (wet services, fire services, medical gas, compressed air, laundry equipment, etc.)
• Lead projects from condition assessment and design through to construction and final handover
• Manage large-scale and mega projects (R30m – R100m+ service value)
• Compile tenders, bills of quantities, and technical reports
• Oversee project financial management, including budgeting, cost reporting, certifications, and final accounts
• Conduct site inspections, feasibility studies, and condition assessments
• Mentor and develop junior engineers
• Liaise with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary professional teams
• Ensure compliance with company’s QMS, HR policies, and ISO standards
